About the Artist

Donald’s work is rooted in the belief that art should act as a witness. Whether through a copper plate or a public installation, his goal is to capture a moment of stillness in an increasingly noisy world.

His practice focuses on two core pillars:

1. The Anatomical Symbol: Using the human heart as a recurring motif, he explores how vulnerability can be transformed into a shield, challenging the boundaries between our inner selves and the outer world.

2. Cultural Resonance: Through his Polyphony series, Donald translates the ephemeral beauty of Albanian oral traditions into the physical reality of metal and paper, ensuring that the "voices" of the past continue to vibrate in the present.

Donald’s studio is a space of discipline. He is one of the few contemporary artists fully dedicated to Intaglio printmaking, a process where the image is incised into a metal plate.

• Mezzotint: A process of "finding the light," where Donald spends hundreds of hours rocking a copper plate to achieve the velvety blacks and haunting glows that define his Heart as a Shield series.

• Drypoint: A technique of raw immediacy. Using diamond-tipped needles, he scratches narratives directly into metal, embracing the "burr" and the expressive, textured lines that give his work its visceral energy.

Beyond the gallery wall, Donald seeks to engage the public in their own environments. His 2025 installation, “Heart Remains,” in Vlora, utilized ice and anatomical forms to provoke a dialogue about empathy and the melting of social distances. This bridge between high-fine art and urban accessibility defines his mission as a modern creator: to make the profound personal.
