Drypoint – “Angels in Protest”

This original drypoint print captures a haunting intersection between the sacred and the political. Titled “Angels in Protest,” the work depicts ethereal figures wearing gas masks, emerging through dense clouds of smoke.

The piece is inspired by a real protest in Albania, where tear gas was used near a mosque, forcing worshippers to abandon a space of prayer and refuge. In this composition, angels symbols of purity, protection, and transcendence are reimagined within a moment of unrest. Their gas masks suggest both survival and silencing, transforming them into witnesses of human conflict.

Executed in drypoint on copper plate, the work is defined by raw, expressive lines and rich tonal contrasts. The technique enhances the immediacy of the scene, allowing each mark to carry emotional weight and physical presence.
